I saw this dress last summer on Pinterest, and I fell in love with it. I really don’t wear much white (the opposite of Kelly Kapoor), so I could pretty easily justify adding this particular item to my closet (because I didn’t have any other white dresses).
Plus, my birthday was coming up — side note: my birthday is tomorrow! — so I sent the link to my mom and asked her to buy it for me for my birthday. Which she did.
The only issue was that the XS was designed for a 42″ bust. And believe me, my measurement is far below that. So over the course of the past year, I’ve slowly altered it to work for me!
The first (and most crucial) change was securing the skirt. It’s not a true wrap dress, but the skirt liked to blow in the wind (slash blow open) as if it was. So I tacked the skirt down very quickly.
From there, I played around with the top until I finally just removed it altogether and resewed it. And then I redid the elastic around the waist to fit me better, too. And in the process, I shortened the skirt a bit so that it wasn’t dragging on the floor every time I took a step.
And now — finally — I have a dress that fits me!
The catalyst for finally finishing all of the alterations on this dress was our rehearsal dinner. I’d put a lot of thought into what I’d wear — Buy a new dress? Pull out my white tulle skirt again? — but in the end, I decided this dress was the way to go. It was white, I already owned it, and I’d be able to wear it again. Win-win-win.
