As many of you know, Matt has been applying to grad programs, and he’s finally decided that he’s going to the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill this fall. Which means that we’re moving soon!
We’ve obviously gotten a lot of questions about his program and our move, so I compiled the most frequently asked questions below, along with some pictures from our visit to Chapel Hill last weekend.
What program will Matt be in? He’s getting a Ph.D. in Classical Studies.
What does he want to do with it? His plan is to be a college professor!
Wait, what program is Matt in right now? He’s currently finishing a post baccalaureate program (in Classical Studies) at Georgetown. So he’ll get his master’s as part of his program at UNC, too.
When are you moving? We haven’t set an exact date yet, but probably mid-July (after the wedding but before August 1 so we can establish residency for his second year).
Where exactly will you be living? TBD. We looked at a few apartments last weekend, and we’re hoping to get something nailed down soon.
What about your job? I actually work remotely in my current job, so I’ll just keep working remotely from a different state.
Where do you live now? How far away is that? We currently live in Montgomery County, MD, which is about five hours from Chapel Hill (without traffic).
Have you been to Chapel Hill before? Just once, when I visited my friend who was in grad school at UNC. (Well, aside from this past weekend.) Though Matt and I did both go to Wake Forest, which is only about two hours away.
Was UNC your first choice for Matt? I mean, I was trying to be impartial. But yes. 🙂
Are you excited? Very, very much.
Our trip down was incredibly quick, but we did walk all around campus, and Matt even showed me the building where he’ll be taking/teaching classes (the one in the first picture below).
We’ll keep you updated about our adventure!
