Winter Brights

Winter Brights | Hunting for Pink Flamingos

I am a firm believer in wearing bright clothes in the winter.

I think a lot of people leave the colors for the summer when it’s bright and sunny and fun, but we need that cheeriness just as much in the winter! I mean, it gets dark at like 5:00 for the entire month of December. That doesn’t really scream “fun and excitement” to me.

So, I was pretty excited when I found this orange sweater at LOFT last year. (Plus, it had really cute tortoise shell buttons on the shoulders.) But after I got it home, I realized that a cropped orange sweater wasn’t exactly the most versatile item to buy. (Yes, you’re probably like, “How did that not occur to you??” It didn’t, ok?) Half of the combinations I tried just looked like I was celebrating Halloween, and in the other half, I was accidentally showing off my stomach.

But one day, I saw that the orange sweater was hanging right next to the purple roll tab sleeve shirt in my closet. And the color combination was kind of awesome. So I put it on.

Aside from the colors, I’m a big fan of this outfit because the purple top gives the cropped sweater some length. So I can wear it with high-waisted pants, like I am here, but I can also wear it with mid-rise jeans.

Plus, an extra layer means extra warmth. And I’m not going to turn that down.
